Cubera Snapper

The cubera is the bruiser of the inshore reefs — a heavy, hard-pulling snapper that lives in rock and structure and does everything it can to break you off in it. Cubera and its cousins (mullet, dog and Pacific snapper) round out an inshore day with steady action and excellent table fare.

Where & when

Rocky reefs, points and structure inshore, often on the same half-day trips as roosterfish.

How we fish it

Live bait and jigs worked tight to structure, with drag locked down to turn the fish before it reaches the rocks.
